Running to Jesus, Not From Danger
In which Brent learns that rest comes from the presence of God, not the absence of threats

Isaiah 30:15-17
“For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel,
“In returning and rest you shall be saved;
in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.”
But you were unwilling, and you said,
“No! We will flee upon horses”;
therefore you shall flee away; and,
“We will ride upon swift steeds”;
therefore your pursuers shall be swift.
A thousand shall flee at the threat of one;
at the threat of five you shall flee,
till you are left like a flagstaff on the top of a mountain,
like a signal on a hill.”
I will never do enough to escape being overloaded
Or accomplish enough to escape failure.
I will never have enough to escape loss.
Or experience enough to escape an unfulfilled life.
I will never gain enough approval to escape self loathing.
Or be good enough to escape being a sinner.
I will never taste enough to escape hunger
Or drink enough to escape thirst.
I will never be healthy enough to escape sickness
Or safe enough escape death.
I will never run fast enough to escape
Because escape is not the answer.
My Savior, at calvary,
Did enough, accomplished enough,
Had enough, experienced enough,
Gained enough, was good enough,
Hungered and thirsted,
Bore my sickness and took on death.
My rest will not come by running from danger
But rather in a quiet, trusting return to a Savior
Who defends and is enough.
